Cremyll Sailing

Cremyll Sailing - Moosk

Cremyll Sail Training aims to provide young people, from all walks of life, a sailing experience as a tool to develop character and build self-esteem, always with an awareness of the needs of others.

Whilst the main aim of sail training today is not to teach people to sail, Cremyll Sail Training does offer RYA Courses during their voyages to help young people gain their RYA Competent Crew and Watch Leader certificates. The voyages may also be used for sections of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The boat currently available for sail training activities is Moosk, a 58 foot Edwardian yawl. Built by W.H.Thomas in Falmouth in 1906 as an auxiliary yacht, she was one of the first boats to be built with a motor and electrics for lighting the cabin. Rebuilt by G. Brown & Son, in Southwold, Suffolk and she was re-launched on 21st August 2001. A very strong construction of oak frames and teak planking strapped with iron floors and knees, she is a sea worthy vessel, rigged as a gaff yawl, simple and handy to sail with a fine and deep hull that makes her light through the water.
