Sailing Links

The Discovery Sailing Project was founded in 1971. Its aims are to encourage the spiritual, mental and physical development of young people so that they may take a constructive place in society. This is achieved through the experience of sail training aboard the purpose-built 13.5m Seastream yacht Discovery and 8m Westerly Centaur yacht Bambi. The project's main cruising area is the South Coast. Discovery takes part in the annual international Tall Ships' Races offering cruises in different areas, as part of the delivery to and return from the race. Utilising Bambi, the project runs RYA courses to Yachtmaster Offshore level. The Day Skipper Shorebased course is run annually. The project encourages young people to develop their skills and advancing with a view to becoming a Watch Leader, Mate or Skipper.
