Gordonstoun School, in North East Scotland, was founded in 1934 by the pioneering educationalist Dr Kurt Hahn, who also inspired Outward Bound, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the United World College of the Atlantic. Today the school uses the modern Oyster 80 ketch Ocean Spirit of Moray for sail training. In addition to school curriculum commitments Ocean Spirit is often available for sail training voyages for groups of young people and to individuals who wish to participate in the STI Tall Ships' Races. We also run adult adventure voyages, primarily in the Western Isles, from Kyle of Lochalsh. Sixteen berths are available per voyage and young people and adults unconnected with Gordonstoun are welcome to apply from age 16. Bursary assistance may be available for those wishing to participate in youth sail training voyages.
