Tall Ships head for Hartlepool |
|
Every year The Tall Ships Races attract a spectacular range of vessels and this year 17 of them are from the UK Sail Training fleet!
The 2010 race series has seen participating vessels race from Belgium to Denmark, then cruise-in-company among the fjords and archipelagos of Norway and they will soon take part in a final race across the North Sea to the finish port of Hartlepool UK. The homecoming festivities of the Tall Ships will form England’s largest free event of the year. The vessels can be seen in Hartlepool 7-10 August.
The Tall Ships Races provide a great adventure for young people aged 15 – 25. No previous experience is necessary to take part and all the 17 vessels of the UK Sail Training fleet are being crewed by a wide range of young people from all sorts of backgrounds. Seven of the vessels have been hired by an ambitious project to provide 70 young Explorer Scouts, Sea Scouts and disadvantaged young people from Project Northumberland the chance to take part in this transformative experience.
