Spirit skipper scoops award

It’s been a very special week for Fairbridge as a former young person, Campbell Greer, scooped the Young Person Full Potential Award at the annual Private Equity Foundation (PEF) Awards.
Campbell Greer receives PEF Award

Campbell, who has risen through the ranks to recently become Skipper of Fairbridge tallship, Spirit of Fairbridge, was put forward for the award by Craig Wilson and Stuart Fyfe in recognition of his many achievements since he joined Fairbridge as a young person back in 2002. Campbell was 16 when he first walked into Fairbridge Glasgow, having been excluded from school more than 20 times.  Fairbridge worked with him to address his issues, improve his confidence and encouraged him to work hard.  He has since gone on to further education, achieved his National Certificate and worked as a Development Tutor before becoming Skipper of Spirit.

PEF has been a philanthropic investor in Fairbridge since 2008, providing substantial grant funding and professional pro bono support from the private equity community, to help drive a step change in impact evidence and sustainability. The PEF Awards are designed to recognise the crucial work of PEF’s portfolio charities in helping young people and the Young Person Full Potential Award is the highlight of the evening, publically acknowledging the achievements and the significant challenges overcome by young people.

Stuart said: "Campbell is a hugely inspiring young man. He has not only shown the drive to push himself forward but perhaps more impressively, the willingness to take on feedback from others about himself and areas where he has developed new skills and strategies to get from where he was as a teenager, to where he is now."
Campbell said of his experience:  “Fairbridge changed everything for me. Completing my traineeship and becoming Skipper of Spirit was a huge achievement and I’m glad that I can offer the same support that Fairbridge once gave me.  When I first came to Fairbridge I thought I didn’t have a future. Little did I know then that Fairbridge was my future.”
