The Challenge Wales youth sailing charity is one of only six groups in Wales that have been shortlisted to battle for the public vote and £50,000 of lottery cash in ITV's The People's Millions TV Competition.
Challenge Wales will make a bid for viewers support to win the £50,000, with the public voting by phone to decide who wins the prize. On Monday 25 November 2013 Challenge Wales will highlight on ITV Wales its 'Turning the Tide' project which focuses on using sailing as an activity to develop self-confidence for visually impaired and blind young people.
Vicky Williams, Trustee, states; Our Turning the Tide project aims to make sailing on Challenge Wales more accessible to visually impaired and blind young people. We want to be able to offer them the same opportunity as anyone else and come onboard for a new sensory experience, develop self-confidence, enjoy a fun social activity and make new friends. . If we win, the money will be used to provide taster and residential voyages for visually impaired young people and their buddies in North, West and South Wales, provide specialised equipment including an audio-compass & tactile sailing charts and provide transport to make it easy for visually impaired young people to travel from home to the boat.
Challenge Wales volunteers and supporters will be filming a TV appeal with ITV Wales on Friday 15 November and from now until Monday 25 November will be raising awareness of the public vote and encouraging people to vote on the night.
