Full Members

Full members comply with all of the ASTO membership criteria:

• The organisation will have a properly constituted Board of Trustees/Directors.
• It will own (or have a long term charter arrangement of) an appropriate sail training vessel.
• Its vessels will hold appropriate MCA certificates and will be operated in accordance with MCA requirements.
• It will have a primary objective of youth development and/or working with adults with special needs.
• It will provide a good level of care for its trainees and have an adequate child protection policy. This should include the CRB vetting of all staff and volunteers in contact with young people and vulnerable adults.
• It will have a realistic operating budget and will have a proven track record of satisfactory operation as an offshore sail training organisation.

Associate Members

Associate members may not comply with all ASTO membership criteria. This may mean the associate member organisation is not a registered charity, or does not own a vessel. All new members are required to serve as associate members for the season before they are considered for full membership.
