Welcome to UK Sail Training

The Tall Ships Races

The Tall Ships Races are organised every year by Sail Training International, whose members offer the Sail Training experience world-wide.  ASTO is the national UK Sail Training organisation and is a member of Sail Training International.

Each year ships from around the world gather together to participate in challenging offshore and ocean racing, and to share and enjoy the ensuing shoreside festivities and celebrations.  These events are youth-focused and bring a huge spectacle to the ports they call at. Half of the crerw of each vessel need to be under 25 to participate. ASTO members regularly take part and you too could be part of this massive international spectacle.

2015 will see two race series:  The summer race starting in Belfast, UK and culminating in Aalborg, Denmark, and the Baltic Tall Ships Regatta.

The STI Bursary is a similar programme and is administered by the national Sail Training Organisations. ASTO have up to £380 per trainee available to take part on board an ASTO member vessel. Other UK vessels may be considered. To apply, find a berth on a boat (see list above) and print out and complete the application form.
